EPISODE 1

INT. APARTMENT STAIRWELL — DAY

ILYA, early thirties, in a faded courier jacket, reaches the final flight of a worn apartment stairwell. A flat parcel is tucked carefully beneath his arm.

His phone reads “1 delivery remaining.” He locks it without opening the navigation and looks directly toward apartment 42B.

At the landing he slows. His thumb traces a dent in the brass number plate, as if checking something he remembers.

SFX: Uneven footsteps, a phone vibration, distant television through the door.

Ilya checks the handwritten address. The top flap is softened by age; fresh tape runs over an older strip.

ILYA

(under his breath)

42B.

He raises his right hand to knock. His sleeve slips back, exposing a pale crescent scar at the wrist.

His knuckles stop short of the wood. He pulls the sleeve down and lowers his hand as the television inside falls silent.

SFX: Paper rubbing against a jacket; the television abruptly switching off.

INT. APARTMENT 42B — DOORWAY — DAY

The door opens before Ilya knocks. MARA, mid-thirties, her dark hair tied back, stands in the warm doorway drying her hands on a towel.

MARA

(distracted)

You can leave it inside.

He offers the parcel while keeping his eyes on the label. She moves aside, but he stays outside the threshold.

Mara reaches for it. He releases the parcel a fraction too late, then withdraws his hand into his sleeve.

SFX: A dry hinge creak; the kitchen tap dripping beyond Mara.

Mara turns the parcel to find the name. Her towel stops moving when she sees the handwriting.

She looks from the label to Ilya. He is already watching her reaction, then quickly looks away.

MARA

(carefully)

That’s my mother’s writing. Who gave you this?

Mara tightens her grip on the parcel. Ilya does not answer; the quiet between them replaces the delivery routine.

SFX: The towel slips against cardboard; isolated drops from the kitchen tap.
